10 Tips for Relaxing During Pregnancy

Relaxing During PregnancyBeing pregnant sometimes can be stressful times. Stress can be cared when pregnant women worry about things such as money, heath of their baby or themselves lack of sleep and the change in hormone levels don’t make it any easier. Stress is something your body does when you feel threatened or upset. Studies have proven that when a pregnant woman is stressed i can effect her unborn baby. This happens by the stress hormone being passed into the amniotic fluid which means Stressed Mum Equals a Stressed Baby! We have put together 10 tips on ways that can reduce stress when you are pregnant.

 

  1. Breathing – practice breathing exercises to help you relax throughout your pregnancy.

  2. Massage – book in and get a massage by a professional or ask your partner.

  3. Aromatherapy - Used at bath time and massages.

  4. Music - Listen to your favourite music. Try listening to classical music if this is not your general listening music.

  5. Baby Moons – just like your honeymoon but while you are pregnant. A relaxing time to spend being pampered and spending time with your partner.

  6. Pregnancy Relaxation Techniques - yoga, meditation and visualisation. Practicing each day makes you less susceptible to stress.

  7. Quality Sleep – going to bed at the same time each night and avoid eating too close to going to bed as this can induce heartburn.

  8. Gentle Exercise - Swimming and walking are both ideal during pregnancy. This will help release natural endorphins that will help you feel good.

  9. Eat Healthy – Foods to include into your diet when pregnant are bananas, broccoli, avocados, citrus fruits and whole grain breads, pasta and rice.

  10. Talk – Everyone reacts and displays stress in different ways Symptoms might include: being quick to anger; nail biting; being unable to concentrate; loss of appetite; skin problems; frequent coughs and colds; indigestion; tense muscles; headaches and rapid heartbeat. Find someone to talk to which may include your partner, family, friends or health care professional.
