Suri Cruise in fashion controversy again

4 Votes

suriIt looks like Suri Cruise has yet again upped the fashion ante for toddlers everywhere.

Months after being spotted wearing kitten heels which drew critisism from angry mothers, the three-year-old daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise sported her most controversial fashion statement yet - a blood-red lipstick-hued mouth - as she accompanied her mum to the theatre in New York last week. While age-appropriately-dressed otherwise (sweet yellow bow headband, yellow cardigan, pink top), the vampy red lipstick does make the toddler look older than her years and even a tad Lolita-esque.

While lots of little girls love to play dress-up and borrow their mums' lipstick and makeup, they tend to play at home and not parade their looks in the spotlight. Suri has been making fashion statements out-of-doors virtually since her birth - her high-heeled sandals, expensive handbags and fabulous frocks have kept the cameras snapping. And while she does look adorable and impeccably dressed most of the time, is makeup taking it a bit too far?

Holmes has responded to criticism that she is letting her daughter grow up too quickly by saying that she lets Suri choose her own clothes and decide what she wants to wear, while Tom has implied that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, remarking, "Suri is very much like her mother. She will not wear trousers, only dresses," and adding that the two love to get their nails done together.

Do you think Suri's latest look is a bit of a worry or just plain cute? Leave a comment and let us know!

  1. Not a worry or cute, just a kid having fun.
  2. Im sorry do these parents do drugs while their children sit around watching, starving of malnutrition, wondering what a hug is? Do they abuse their children?
Lets put our energy into the parents who cannot even provide a basic healthy environment for their children. The ones who dont even want their children or expose them to dangers. Move on.
  3. I think she looks very pretty but the make up is really very bad for a girl of her age. Why do the parents want to push her to do what is not suitable for her age??? Do they really need publicity that badly???
    Yuk!!!
  4. Surely there are more important things to worry about than this, like people dying in Haiti etc. Even if we co write reams and reams about how disgusting we think this is, do you think the Cruise's are going to care or take notice of us - I don't think so.
  5. Personally, I think 3 is a perfect age for giving a child choice (this dress or this one) while teaching a child that mum has the final say on what she wears out of the house. If I expect to have control over what my daughter wears at 16, then I better put in the hard yards now! That said, letting her wear lipstick to the theatre adds to the excitement and specialness of it all - personally I'd be opting for a little girl pick lipgloss though
  6. I really don't think its that bad, I see young girls with their mothers all the time that have decided to experiment with makeup before going to the shops. My 2 year old will sit on the dresser and play with makeup whenever I do mine. Its very common and totally normal except that most kids dont have photographers following their every move so its not splashed all over the media. Poor Suri is going to be coping this kind of stuff her whole life.
  7. Without a doubt it is inappropiate, as were the heels, and designer handbags. She is only a small child who should be a child as long as possible. Katie Holmes statement that 'she allows her daughter to choose what she wears' is irresponsible as a parent. The clothes which are bought for her should be beyond controversy, so that when she wished to choose what she would like to wear, then there would be no inapproatiate clothes, makeup or shoes. It appears that Tom and Katie are raising a precocious future teenager.
