Kochie calls on blokes to take a stand against child abuseDavid Koch today called on all Australians, particularly Australian men to get involved in preventing the abuse of our kids. The survey is part of a campaign initiated by NAPCAN, the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, to encourage all members of the community to play a part in the prevention of child abuse. “We are all horrified when we hear of little ones being abused but we want to believe its someone else’s problem,” said Maree Faulkner, Chief Executive of NAPCAN. “The harsh reality is that abuse occurs in all of our communities. Children die, thousands are severely injured and tens of thousands are physically and psychologically damaged in Australia every year, yet this appalling issue remains hidden behind walls of fear, denial or disinterest. David Koch says this isn’t good enough: “It’s up to all of us to bring the issue of child abuse out in the open. As a community we have to work out ways to stop it.” Answering NAPCAN’s survey is simple a first step. It is totally confidential and can be completed online at www.preventingchildabuse.com.au By being involved in this Australia-wide survey everyone can contribute to the planning of more effective prevention strategies for the future. This is the largest community survey of its type ever conducted in Australia. Since its launch over 12,000 people have answered the survey but NAPCAN is targeting at least 50,000 responses by 1 November. “It’s fantastic that so many people have responded – unfortunately only 20% of them are men.
