You have to be honest with yourself and think about your own personality. To be successful at party planning you need to be determined and not afraid to market yourself and your business at every opportunity. You also have to be quite creative and innovative in your approach to party generation. Don't view it as 'just party planning', view it as your own business and be proud of it. You also have to be resilient. Don't get upset about rejections, bad parties or cancellations. These things are all part and parcel of the business. Although there may be some disappointments along the way, the highs will be well worth it.

2) Is it possible to make a full-time income as a party plan consultant?

It most definitely is possible to make a full-time income from party planning. Those people who are successful in this industry are very successful. If you want to earn a bit of extra cash then all you need do is start with your family, friends and acquaintances but if you want to grow a team and really increase your dividends you need to be inventive and seek out opportunities. Whilst it may be a cliché, you really do get out what you put in.

3) What are the benefits of working for a party plan company?

You are able to work mainly from home, set your own hours and schedule, be your own boss, build a business that earns you money even when you are not working, meet lots of new people and work in party environment. In addition, you are provided with a proven business structure and all the tools you need to run your own consultancy whilst still benefiting from the training, support and guidance of the parent company.

4) How do I get started?

Every company is different and will require different things of you before you are able to start operating but the most important thing is that you do your research before committing to a particular company. Read all you can about the company, the products, the commission structure, the promotional opportunities and any start up costs involved. Look at the company's website for signs of credibility. Does the site have contact details? Does the site seem to be up to date? How much does the company know about its products? Are there any testimonials? Does the site work well and appear professional? All these things tell you a lot about a company and will help you make the right decision.
