Making a house into a home

paint_picWe all know when moving into a new property you have to put some of your personal touches to really make it feel like your own home. We also know that change is as good as a holiday so even if you have lived in your property for some time you can still add a few new features to make you and your family home feel refreshed. Parenting Australia has come up with some clever inexpensive ways to do this that will impress your friends and family. The most important tip to remember though is to always let your home reflect you and your family’s personality. There is no point designing a home that won’t be family or child friendly if you have busy little boys and girls playing around the house. In saying that it doesn’t mean we have to be knee deep in toys and cartoons in every room in the house!

Try these tips and share your ideas with us too in the comments section below.

1. Adding colour to the wall without adding paint! A sound impossible doesn’t it? Well we have great news because these days with such a great selection of wall stickers and innovative ideas and designs you can find just about anything that suits babies, toddlers and even adults too! You can also use children’s artwork, update family photographs or make a family tree of photographs on your walls. Using art work that inspires you will always make you smile.

2. Dress up windows with new blinds or curtains either premade or if your adventurous like our Blogger Johanna (Link back to (Joh’s blog) you can even make your own allowing you to really take creative control over your new hanging art. This will create warmth, privacy and bring new life to a room.

3. Create designated spaces for playing, watching TV, eating and doing home work and then design it on paper. Once you have chosen these spaces design the room accordingly. With these choices in mind you can organise your home to reflect the activities that happen in these certain areas in turn helping you de-clutter and remove items that need to be homed in another area.

4. Use accessories to enhance the space you have. Functional accessories pillows, throws, baskets

5. Refresh your home with lovely scents to add a lovely new fresh outlook to your home. You can do this with fresh flowers, oils or incense. These should always be kept away from little children though.

  1. We have moved our three children three times in three years. At each home we talked a lot about their new rooms and drawing with chalk on the new verandah. The same bed linen, curtains, floor rugs and pictures to keep them safe in their rooms. How they could paint the walls of the cubby. We tried out hardest to keep talking to them and to keep all their things the same even their routines.
