What Is ’Active Transport’?
Try leaving the car at home and walk, ride or scoot to school instead. Active transport is good for your health, teaches children road safety and also reduces your environmental footprint and transport costs.
Your child’s school should be involved in the Ride2School Program or Walk to School Day in October. If your school is not involved suggest it to your school P.E. teacher or nominated Wellbeing Coordinator.
Active play doesn’t just mean playing a team sport. There are free and easy ways to get moving and be active at home. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Walk the dog
Fly a kite at the park
Throw a Frisbee
Jump on a trampoline
Ride a bike
Create your own obstacle course
Skipping with a rope
Juggling
Playing with a hula hoop
Build a cubby house
Gardening
Treasure hunt
Dancing
Play with balloons
Make up a concert
Play with a hacky sack
