Choosing a Safe Place to play – Teaching children that playing in a backyard or park with adult supervision is the safest options for play.

Parked Care Safety - You should never leave a child in the car, this is illegal and dangerous for a number of reasons including heat, children trying to leave the car themselves and touching car gear shifts and other things inside the car.

Passenger Safety - Children must always been restrained in an approved care restraint for their age and weight. Always have children under 10 in the backseat. You can teach your child that they are only able to get out of the car on the Kerb side

Bike skateboard & Scooter Safety - All riders should wear helmets. Mum and Dad set a good example by wearing a helmet too. Other safety equipment includes knee and elbow guards, Wrist guards, bright coloured clothing, safety flags and lights.

Pedestrian Safety – When a pedestrian you should teach your children to always hold your hand, pram or trolley. Children should be holding hands up to the age of 8/10 years because up until this age they can still not determine how far away cars are by noise or distance. Set a good example and cross the road at the pedestrian crossings. Teach children not to run across roads. Remember to explain why you have to follow each of these rules so they understand what rule they are following and why.

Driveway Safety – Always teach children to check driveways by looking each way when walking or riding your bike near a driveway. Children may run out behind a car so please hold your child’s hand as car drivers may not see your child when reversing.

Bus Safety – standing away from the kerb – waiting till the bus stops and door fully opens before trying to get on the bus or get off the bus. Try to remain seated while bus is moving. If you need to stand because there are no seats left always hold on to rails provided. Listen to the bus driver and be respectful by talking quietly. Try not to distract the driver with behaviour that may be seen as troublesome and that may well have you given a warning or removed from the bus route pickup/drop-off.
