I only stock healthy breakfast foods, Weetbix, porridge, eggs, fruit and yoghurt. Until the bowl is finished there is no other food being offered that day. If you keep a bit of variety and plenty of time it is never an issue. I never set a time, more a time frame. Some mornings my kids are hungry at 7 others at 8. As long as it is all eaten by 8:30 I dont see the problem.
I have to admit that I am slightly old fashioned when it comes to breakfasts . . Here is what happens in my house:
Summer months: Mon - Fri
There is a choice of Weetbix, Cornflakes, Weeties or Special K with Light Milk ( or rice milk for my lactose intolerant 3 yr old)
Sat
Its a choice of Toast or Cereal . Toppers for toast are either a choice of : Vegemite, Promite, Sliced Tomato,Peanut Butter.
Sun
Is the same as Sat but there is also the added option of eggs on toast either scrambled or poached.
Winter months
Is basically the same BUT there is also hot porridge on offer. I prepare it in the slow cooker before going to bed and its a yummy smell to wake up to and its always popular on those cold winter mornings.
See what I mean about old fashioned . . lol . . I refuse to have sugary cereals like Nutrigrain etc in my home, the kids get a treat when staying at nan or pops as they always buy them cereals that I don't and that's as it should be as long as they don't over do things.
