"Parents flocked to Oxford St yesterday as Slide nightclub opened its doors for Australia's first Baby Loves Disco event - where children under the age of seven go clubbing, wear feather boas, swill organic apple juice and get temporary tattoos." - Daily Telegraph 24th August
Harmless fun or is it encouraging kids to party at a young age?

Just plain silly. There are enough things for kids to do. Preps, ones and twos can go to their regular school discos, as for 4 and under not such a good thing. There are enough things for kiddies to do than bringing them into an adult world. No doubt they were wearing clothing to fit the scene rather than what is age appropriate too.

OMG . .
Seriously - what next???
Why can't parents just simply allow their kids to be kids, why the rush to introduce them to events or behaviours such as 'discos' . .
I am personally against this and there is no way that I would allow my children to attend such a function. My 10 yr-old still watches G rated only TV shows and movies and still believes in the Tooth Fairy and Santa. Quite often I am told that she is immature for her age BUT this is not true . .
Perhaps by the standards of today (which are twisted if you think disco's and g-string underwear is okay for 12 and under) she may be immature BUT if you go back to when I was her age then she is very very normal.
I remember being 13 and going to my first underage disco and I was terrified and excited at the same time. I also remember Balls and Roller skating but not until I was 13 and even then perhaps another year or two wouldn't have hurt.
Today there are too many parents that think that they aren't hurting their children by allowing them to grow up to fast BUT the reality is that these children will miss out on all the fun of childhood and I don't see how this is beneficial to these kids . .
Sorry, but this is a subject that I am very passionate about . .

It just sounds like harmless fun to me. Kids love to dance and get a chance to be silly. Our school has a yearly disco, and all aged kids really get into it, it's a chance to let their hair down.

Hi Hear Mum Roar,
I have no issue with the Disco's that are held at school, these are designed for kids to have fun is a safe environment.
However, the idea of a Baby Loves Disco event - where children under the age of seven go clubbing, wear feather boas, swill organic apple juice and get temporary tattoos is completely irresponsible and not appropriate for young children. All this is doing is telling our kids that is okay to have tattoo's and act inappropriately.
Fun disco's at schools and other social events are acceptable but a night club opening its doors for children under 7 is simply wrong on so many levels!Surely as parents we have to draw the line somewhere and learn to say NO, this I believe is one of those situations.
Cheers Kellz
