I thought cake decorating was a skill you magically acquired somehow during childbirth - LOL! (You can read my post about that here on my blog if you're interested). For my daughter's second birthday I made a butterfly cake, which you can see a pic of in the link. This year when she turned three she asked for a strawberry cake. I used a heart shaped tin, trimmed the bottom and used it to make the stalk. It was super easy and looked great! You can check it out here.

Anyone else have cool pics to share? I'm a very basic cake decorator so would love some tips!

I think cakes make the party.

My daughter had mini patty cakes shaped in a 1 for her 1st birthday

A butterfly cake for her second

and I went all out and made a princess cake barbie and all for her 3rd.

for my sons 1st bithday I am going to make icecreamcone cakes (I think) and shape them on a tray to look like a #1.

This site is all that is ever needed for making cakes ever again. Bookmark it now.

Hi,

I love the article about Birthday Cakes as being the mother of 3 girls (oldest 18) has had me scouring sites and booklets in search of that cake request.

However, is it possible to put together some recipes for kids with food allergies and intolerance's. My 3 yr old is allergic to diary, eggs, nuts etc and this often has me at a complete loss . .

For her 1st birthday cake I got a large jelly mould from a second hand store and made an upside down jelly cake filled with lollies . . Not the most healthiest of cakes but she was ecstatic. The second birthday came and went without cake of any shape or form due to many other varying intolerance's at which the dr's advised me just to steer clear. For her 4th Birthday I am hunting Australia for a simple yet safe birthday cake!

I know of many parents that face the same dilemma.

Cheers Kellz

Im pretty sure its the Womans Weekly, at the checkout at target there is a new cookbook, Gluten and allergy free cooking, there is some in there. Also the easiest way is in the health food row. You can buy allergy free packet cake mixes.

You might also be able to make you own cake out of icecream, SoGood make yummy flavours, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. Icecream cakes go down a treat with our family. If you decorate it with lots of lollies it looks pretty too.
