This is my 2 year old. Like most two year old boys he is full of
jen

beans. He goes all day, non-stop and would prefer to go all night. Thank heavens I have a five year old daughter I can play tag team with to amuse him.

Up until now, I haven’t put any time thinking about his development. Probably in part because I don’t have much time, and in part because unfortunately for him, he is the second child and they seem to get less of everything than the first child. I also try not to put too much into comparing any child to any child as they all develop differently and no point in stressing about these things as long as they are healthy and happy.

After pouring through research, Google, asking a speech therapist and finally finding out from my mum and my fiancées mum what we were like as children I found out that my fiancée didn’t talk until he was much older as well and he was nick named the ‘squealer’ - case closed.\But I have started wondering ‘when will my Thomas start really talking?’ He squeals a lot, and can understand everything I say and do what I ask of him (on occasion) but he isn’t really using many words and not putting them together at all. So off I went in research, as we do when we need to find out information about anything.
Well, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree I say… so once again, I worried for nothing.
I suppose as a parent you cannot help but want to make sure your child is developing on track and sometimes when you see other children of the same age developing quicker you cannot help but question what you are doing and if it’s enough and second guessing everything.
Please don’t or try not to. I think we put too much emphasis on comparing and then we start to lose our confidence as parents. It’s hard enough being a parent without having to deal with that too – the one thing I have learned is just to try and enjoy each phase of each of your child’s development as much as possible.
So, for today, I have my little squealer – and for what will seem like tomorrow, he’ll be a big boy talking non-stop (can’t wait).
