We have a sporting area near our house. I quite often take the children there for a romp to let off some steam playing in the oval. This afternoon we made a special trip. The baby is at home with my mum so Jude and I could have some quality time playing together. Not that we haven’t already had lots of exercise today. Monday mornings we go to Kindergym which I am very grateful for as without their Monday morning class, I would be tearing my hair out! My son is one of those over active toddlers who no matter what, he just has to keep moving. If Jude doesn’t do strenuous physical activity, he wont nap and he gets very cranky. Sitting on the edge of a skatebowl, I watched my 3yo son try to ride his scooter like the big boys. There were a team of locals practising soccer and the sun was setting. It’s a good place for families, like so many in the Hunter Region, we are spoilt for choice.

Everything’s so close , shops, beaches, restaurants. sporting events, wineries and of course the all important cafes. Honestly, where would I be without coffee? Up s!#t creek without a paddle, that’s where. I’m sure coffee was discovered by some desperately tired mothers looking for a solution to sleep deprivation. Because of course Natalie Ebrill (sleep and settle) wasn’t around then to consult. Then we realised how much better it makes us feel when we just can’t get out of bed in the morning until the thought pops in “I’ll get up and make a coffee, I’ll be right” then you drag yourself up and wander bleary-eyed through the house tripping on rogue baby shoes, tow trucks and stray egg-flips on the way to the loo. What’s that, darling? You want ice-cream for breakfast? Oh sure, NOT! Ice-cream is not a breakfast food. You can choose from blah, blah and so on.

Ahh, yes. Life’s 2 great loves – coffee and sleep. Oh wait, what I meant to say was -children and family. I get them mixed up sometimes. Well must be time to head off, I gave Jude a 5 minute warning about 10 minutes ago. The sun’s going to bed and I’m up to “that’s 2!” Time to go home and start dinner, bath and, bed.

  3. Well done Veronica! It was a nice read. Brought back memories of many, many sleepless nights. I too could have done with Natalie in those days. She must be a Godsend for many new mums. Luckily, the kids do grow up. Mind you, both mine are adults now and still at home.:-D
