Educate your child not to trade or share food, food utensils and food containers.

Ensure your child only eats lunches and snacks that have been prepared at home.

Label bottles, other drinks and lunch boxes provided.

Speak to your centre director to ensure the use of food in crafts are restricted according to your child’s needs and that staff preparing food are  instructed about measures necessary to prevent cross contamination during the handling, preparation and serving of food.

Ensure they have a photo of your child as an allergy alert displayed for staff awareness - particularly casual staff.

Ensure your Doctor completes an action plan which is given to your centre - Click Here

Remember that if you felt overwhelmed and frightened about your child’s allergy at the start, so will others when you first tell them. Give them small amounts of information to begin with and allow them time to digest and understand it. Most people want to help as best they can.

  1. This is excellent advise. It is easier to live with food allergies today because of all the new allergen free foods. Visit www.schoolsafefood.com www.soybutter.com and www.schoolsafeprocedure to see what some companies are doing to remove causative allergens from the classrooms.

    Thank you for this list!
