Dear Readers...

I was a career girl, a corporate whizz. Even during labour after an epidural, I was on the phone to my office - what else could I do? Cristian took 31 hrs to arrive by which time I had almost completed a weeks work! How sad was I? Given my mind set you can imagine the shock that having a baby brought. The organised, corporate career girl that I was could not fit baby Cristian into my corporate maternity plan... but I didn’t even care! I had fallen in love and there was no going back, the career, my colleagues, the money, nothing mattered, I only had eyes for baby Cristian.

A year later economic reality struck and I had to go begrudgingly back to work. I suffered terribly from separation anxiety and flogged myself emotionally for being a bad mother. All I could think about was getting home and yet being in the grown up world was therapeutic for me, it brought some well needed balance into my life.

I love my children and today I love my work and juggling both. I firmly believe that when it comes to returning to work after having a baby there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. Many factors influence such a personal decision and it is important not to allow yourself to be judged or take on other people’s well meaning views, it is up to you and your partner to decide what is best for you and your family.
