Parenting Australia

Dear Readers...

We are now officially in what I call Festive Flurry season. Yes, the pre ‘big day’ madness is upon us and it is important to keep in mind as we race here, there and everywhere trying to get everything done, that if we don't, yes don't, get everything done it is not the end of the world. My lovely neighbour came in for a cuppa this morning and her memory of one year's festive flurry made me stop and ask the question, how important is it?

Nerida told me about a Christmas she rushed around to get organised when her eldest was a toddler and how everything was perfect. She wore glittery mules and a glittery kaftan, hair done, make up on, table set, ready to entertain the family and yet in all the photos she looked totally exhausted... she had no idea...

Plan yes, make lists and rush around but when the festive flurry hits you, take a step back and ask, how important is this? And manage your time accordingly. Self care is often last on our lists at this time of year, make it a priority, slow down, take care and you will get through and enjoy your day.. and get some good photos.

19 months ago Andrew Thompson was abducted by his mother Melinda. He was 4 at the time and they simply vanished without a trace. I spoke with Ken his father on Monday who described his daily ritual of trawling the internet for clues and waiting by the phone. Ken needs your help. Andrew is 6 now. Ken was surprisingly kind when he spoke of Melinda, he needs to know if they are both OK and he also needs his son back in his life, as is his paternal right.

AFP has confirmed to Ken, that they did leave Australia, please can you email this request for help to your friends and family both in Australia and overseas and join his facebook cause

There is huge social network of mums Online someone - somewhere must know Melinda and Andrew.
If you have any information about Andrew or his mother please contact AFP on 6126 7777 (the same number in all states and territories). Do not approach Melinda.

RUOK Day

The holiday season is a time when many people feel very lonely and whilst we are all rushing around we may not stop to think if a friend may be feeling sad or lonely.
Christmas used to be a 'difficult' day for me prior to kids, all my friends were with their families and because I had no family it was a long, lonely day. Since having the children I have adjusted our calendar and we celebrate on Christmas Eve and have lots of friends over for our festive dinner. I always invite someone I know is alone, this year it will be a new friend I have made an elderly lady, Nicole, whose husband died this year, they had been married for 30 years and had no children.
This Sunday is RUOK day, a day dedicated to reaching out to friends and family you think may need a 'friend'. I will be calling Nicole, can you think of someone you can call and say, 'Hi, How are you going?'
