Dear Readers...

I was at the Dr’s recently and sat next to a pregnant couple, they were very affectionate with each other and were full of the excitement and anticipation of their visit and the journey their pregnancy was taking them on. I remembered fondly how that felt and I felt empathetic towards them but I would not like to go back to pregnancy. Yes it was wonderful and joyful but I would not want to go back to that stage in my life.

Why? You may be asking if you are pregnant, well when I was pregnant and gave birth to my children I thought nothing could surpass that, yet being a part of their daily lives and watching them grow and develop does, each day with them and all the special moments we share are blessings. For those of you who are pregnant with your first child life will never be the same and for those of you who already have children you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Pregnancy is a special time, a time of up’s and downs, uncertainty and expectation, nesting, resting and sharing your hopes and dreams with your partner, take special care.. I hope you enjoy this weeks publication.. we find out about sex during pregnancy what’s ok, what’s not, pets, air travel, antibiotics and how to survive the first six weeks with your baby.

Air Travel During Pregnancy

Generally flying during pregnancy poses no special risks to a healthy pregnant woman or her baby. However if you're pregnant, it's best to check with your doctor provider before you fly. Certain conditions in pregnancy — such as severe anaemia, sickle cell disease, clotting disorders and placental insufficiency — can increase the risk of problems. You are likely to feel your best between 14 to 28 weeks making this a good time to travel— and the risks of miscarriage and premature labour are the lowest during this period too. Your health care provider may restrict travel of any type after 36 weeks of pregnancy or if you're at risk of preterm delivery, best to check with them before you make any plans.

Pregnant Air Travel

Check the airline's policy about pregnancy and flying. Guidelines for pregnant women may vary by carrier;

Choose your seat carefully. For the most space and comfort, request an aisle seat. For the smoothest ride, request a seat near the front of the plane;

Buckle up. During the trip, fasten the lap belt under your abdomen and across the tops of your thighs;
Promote circulation. If possible, get out of your seat for a short walk every half-hour or so. If you must remain seated, flex and extend your ankles often;

Drink plenty of water;

Avoid alcohol and caffeine;
Wear thigh-length surgical stockings during the flight;
