Dear Readers...

This morning I rushed out of the house with my Ugg boots shamefully tucked into a velour tracksuit, hair scooped up in a pony and Jackie O's. As I tuned out to the morning argument between Cristian and Emily about who would sit in the front, the reality that I am not a fashion icon hit me... panic set in. How will I write about dressing to impress when I can hardly dress for the school run?

Getting the children to school on time each day, fed, dressed, teeth cleaned and lunch packed is impressive even on the occasions when I sometimes leave in my pj's, trenchcoat and gum boots!

The school run is, unlike most things in life, about the destination not the journey...

There are many occasions when it is appropriate to 'dress to impress'. I am not a person who has natural flair for style, I have to work at it so I have picked up a few useful tips whilst compiling this weeks edition and would love to get some more to pass on to our members...

There are some delightful designer duds out there for kids. Designers have great creativity and style, and many are producing high quality and appropriate designs for little people. What I do find bothersome though, is the culture now for parents to actively seek out the designer name for the sole purpose of having it emblazoned across their child's chest... By Mihiri Udabage. Online Shopping advice and tips

Undoubtedly there are bargains to be found by shopping on line, for instance at Top Shop one of UK's favourite online shopping outlets you can buy sequinned and embellished blouses for approx $80 similar to those sold at Witchery for $149.95, or Ray-Ban's from the US for $120 that would set you back around $300 from a retail outlet here. However there are pitfalls, I fell into one myself when I purchased a treadmill online and it was faulty, the retailer refused to collect it, they said I had to carry it to the post office, a workout in itself! It took me 4 weeks to sort the matter out and get refunded and I vowed never to shop online again... at least until next time. For the choice, savings and delivery to my door combined with the benefit of 24 hrs, no parking to worry about and not having to deal with shop assistants telling me I look great when I know I don't, all at the push of a button, it is very appealing.
Online purchase guide:

  • Do your research, buy only from sites you know and trust or get referrals
  • Check the site is an established business with a physical address
  • Check the refund and return policy
  • Look for hidden costs like packaging, delivery, currency conversion and taxes.
  • There should be options and prices for different delivery methods
  • Ensure you receive a receipt of the order by email or post

The Sunday Telegraph is looking for parents as case studies for a news story "Satellite babies". Satellite babies refers to the way newly-emigrated parents send their Australian-born babies back to their home countries (due to long working hours, and economic/cultural circumstances) to be taken care of by their grandparents, they return to Australia again when they are old enough to start school.
