Dear Readers...

We seem to be inundated with images of Angelina and Nicole and other genetically blessed mums in the media, whose bodies returned to pre pregnancy within a few very short weeks. As fabulous as that may feel I can’t help but wonder how pressured they must have been to achieve such drastic weight loss whilst getting to know their new babies.

Last week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Lauren Newton, who refreshingly did not succumb to a ‘get your body back' regime, and as she put it ‘went with the flow’. Having a healthy baby was her priority and by looking after herself in gentle healthy ways over a period of months she lost her baby weight.

Pressure is on mums more than ever today to ‘get your body back' or ‘get back to work’ - it goes on and on. How about we take the pressure off, ditch the ‘I can have it all’ and ‘I can do it all’ expectation we put on ourselves, and like Lauren Newton, ‘go with the flow’ - it sounds much healthier to me.

Get Your Body Back by Eve from Family Food Works

Life is certainly never the same after having a baby – particularly if it is your first. It seems like there is no time for anything apart from feeding, washing, cooking and trying to get some sleep. No time to think about going to the gym, making gourmet meals or even shopping.

Ten Tips To Boost Your Energy And Self Esteem Levels During Early Motherhood

Be kind to yourself, remember it took 9 months to gain your baby weight, set realistic goals about loosing it.

Try to focus on your health and wellbeing rather than ‘loosing weight fast’.
Make gentle exercise a part of each day, get out of the house.
Exercise with your baby, meet up with other mums and their bubs for a park walk.
Keep your fluids up, drink plenty of water.
If possible hand your baby over to your partner or trusted friend/relative and set aside 30 mins of ‘me’ time a day.
On a meal by meal, snack by snack basis select a healthy option.
Stop wearing anything you wore when you were at the end of your pregnancy (except your nursing bra).
Don’t sweat the small stuff, you do not need to be a domestic goddess, prioritize and leave what you can’t manage.
Make time for your partner, ask him to turn off the TV and his mobile phone and have a cuppa with you when bubby is asleep.

Olive Leaf Australia’s fresh-picked extract is now one of the country’s most sought-after natural health supplements, with more than 1,000 bottles sold every day. Antioxidants are the rage these days, as we learn more and more about the life-extending benefits of these naturally occurring compounds. While dark chocolate and green tea have become a daily antioxidant boost for many, few realise that the leaves of the olive tree are one of the most powerful antioxidant cocktails known to man, many times more potent than green tea, goji, grape seed or vitamin C.
